Begin your unforgettable adventure with a scenic one-hour drive from your Phuket accommodation to the Khaolak Elephant Sanctuary, passing through lush farmlands, rolling hills, and picturesque beaches. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your English-speaking guide, who will introduce you to the sanctuary’s mission and the elephants’ fascinating stories. Receive bananas and sugar cane to feed the elephants, then stroll through the sanctuary alongside your guide, observing these gentle giants freely roaming in a safe, sustainable, and ethical environment. Interact with them closely—touch, feed, and photograph the elephants as you learn about their unique personalities, habits, and daily routines.
After meeting the elephants, follow them to the nearby mud spa, where you’ll enjoy a fun and meaningful bonding experience—applying a healthy mud treatment to their skin. Then, continue to the river for a refreshing bath with the elephants. Help scrub and bathe them as they splash, play, and cool off in the water. Once the elephants are clean, take a few memorable photos before changing into dry clothes. End your day with delicious snacks and seasonal fruits, followed by a relaxing visit to Naithon Beach, where you can unwind amid beautiful natural scenery before returning to your hotel, your heart full of joy and unforgettable memories.

My wife and I sampled the 1 hour gentle giants watch and learn tour yesterday. Our guide was 'Tony' the bad boy. Lol. He actually was a very good guy who informed us of the history of the elephants sheltering with them. It was lovely to see them roam freely through the woods and visit the river as and when they wanted allowing them to bathe and remove dirt and mud. We had no physical interaction with the elephants which is how it should be. We just watched and were enchanted by these beautiful animals. A must visit if you are in the area to ensure funds flow into the project. This is to see the elephants cared for into their old age.

Truly unforgettable! The Ethical Elephant Sanctuary was an amazing experience and absolutely worth the price. The rescued elephants are treated with real respect — no riding, no forcing, only what they willingly want to do. We fed them bananas, walked with one to a stream, watched her bathe, and could gently splash water on her. Such a beautiful moment in the Thai heat. The guides were incredibly friendly, shared lots of interesting information, answered all our questions, and created a very warm atmosphere. The food was delicious, and we could safely get very close to the elephants for photos. A heartfelt, respectful, and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

We had a great time with our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. The elephants seem happy and well cared for. The waterfall is well worth the time, a lovely refreshing swim.

Lovely experience seeing the rescued elephants in a peaceful habitat. We started the tour off by feeding all the elephants (from a respectful distance) and then our guide took our family on a private walk through the grounds with one elephant and told us more about the sanctuary and the nature of elephants. Overall the experience was informative, ethical, and just the perfect duration if you are a family with young children. My only piece of advice is to make sure you carry cash with you to the sanctuary as they didn’t have working card machine. Apart from that I highly recommend Khaolak Ethical Elephant Sanctuary!

We loved our visit to the sanctuary. Thank you Tony, our guide, who was so informative & knowledgeable. We booked directly online and added the pickup service from our hotel. The elephants were so obviously relaxed and happy, crossing their legs, calm and slowly walking, and flapping their ears, free to roam whenever and wherever they wanted. Most of the elephants are over 50 (some over 60) and had horrible lives, so it was so good to see them being cared for. We had the opportunity to feed them tree branches, sugar cane and make a healthy mixture of rice, banana, tamarind, etc. We followed two elephants around the jungle and watched one enjoy themselves bathing in the river. We finished our visit with a cooking class making Pad Thai Noodles. This is how to experience Asian Elephants the ethical way. Thank you to a wonderful team doing such a worthy job. Worth every penny..
