Experience Hong Kong like never before with an unforgettable journey on the Ngong Ping Cable Car, a 5.7-kilometer bi-cable ropeway that promises awe-inspiring panoramic views. As you ascend high above the South China Sea and glide over the lush greenery of North Lantau Country Park, you’ll be treated to a stunning perspective of Hong Kong’s diverse landscape. Capture breathtaking views of the Hong Kong International Airport, the majestic Tian Tan Buddha, and the engineering marvel of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge — the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge. Each moment in the cable car offers a new and mesmerizing angle of the city’s blend of modern innovation and natural beauty.

Once you reach Ngong Ping Village, immerse yourself in Hong Kong’s spiritual and cultural heart. Visit the revered Tian Tan Buddha, one of the largest seated bronze Buddhas in the world, and experience the peaceful ambiance of the Po Lin Monastery, a haven of serenity and devotion. Wander along the Wisdom Path, a scenic trail lined with wooden columns inscribed with verses of the Heart Sutra, symbolizing enlightenment and harmony. Whether you’re seeking adventure, culture, or tranquility, this cable car experience offers a perfect balance of all three — making it an unmissable highlight of your Hong Kong journey.

An amazing way to reach Ngong Ping Village! The 30-minute cable car ride offers stunning views of Hong Kong’s sea and mountains, and you might even catch sight of the airport along the way. The experience itself is pretty cool, especially if you try the Crystal+ cabin, the fully transparent version which offers a 360° view of the island. If you’re lucky, you may even have the entire cable car to yourselves and your group, which is perfect for amazing Instagrammable shots. However, the floor of Crystal+ is also made of glass, so it’s not for those with fear of heights. Before you go, make sure to check the weather and operation schedule. Service may be suspended during bad weather or maintenance, in which case you’ll need to take the bus to reach Ngong Ping Village instead.

If you’re looking for a masterclass in how to embody dense, brash, small-man energy, ask for James at Ngong Ping during typhoon closing hours. Instead of simply giving us information about the cable car, this clown barked at us, waved his hands like we were misbehaving children, and—naturally—answered the older white women first, leaving us (Asian women) hanging mid-question. His favorite trick? Telling us, “Go take the bus now!” as if he’s got a god complex and we’re lost sheep. Newsflash, James: the entire park is still open, the shops and restaurants are still serving, and not everyone arrives by bus. But hey, why let logic or manners get in the way of your daily power trip? It’s like he was desperate to flex what little control he has, assuming we couldn’t possibly have driven or taken a taxi—just another day of projecting his own limitations onto guests. If Ngong Ping wants to keep its reputation from sinking faster than a cable car in a typhoon, I suggest retraining (or replacing) employees like James who seem more suited to running people off than welcoming them in. Pro tip: Brush up on customer service—and maybe your teeth—before your next shift.

Amazing ride downhill. We boarded the gondola from here all the way down. It was a very long ride indeed. And it starts at a very high level and also further goes up for a while. The views beneath are magnificent and amazing to see. Lush greenery all around and then you get the views of the sea and the HK Macao bridge. Those afraid of heights may feel a little jittery, but this is worth it. Do check it out. We booked tickets via Klook and had to wait around 10 minutes in the queue.

We took the all-transparent gondola. It was so picturesque and fun. There is no air conditioning in the gondola but the breeze up there is refreshing enough. The weather was fine and we could see far. We could see the giant Buddha, Lantau peak, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau link, Hu Men Hanging Bridge, Tuen Mun, Tung Chung, Hong Kong International Airport and, the most beautiful of all, the setting sun. We were very satisfied with the whole experience.

Ngong Ping Cable Car Ngong Ping Station ★★★★ The Ngong Ping Cable Car is an amazing way to reach the top of Lantau Island. The views from the cable car are breathtaking, especially on a clear day. You can see stunning vistas of the mountains, the sea, and the Big Buddha. The ride itself is smooth and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The station is well-organized, and there are plenty of amenities, including shops, restaurants, and restrooms. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, I highly recommend taking the Ngong Ping Cable Car.
