The San Callisto Catacombs are part of the vast Callistian complex, covering 30 hectares between Via Appia Antica, Via Ardeatina, and Via delle Sette Chiese. This fascinating site includes numerous funerary areas and catacombs, dating back to the late 2nd century. Named after Deacon Callistus I, who oversaw the cemetery, the catacombs grew into the official burial site of the Roman Church under Pope Callistus I.
