Set off on a full-day adventure from Chania to explore the natural charm and traditional character of seven picturesque Cretan villages. Your journey begins in Armenoi village, where you can enjoy a cup of authentic Greek coffee before heading toward the scenic region of Apokoronas in eastern Chania. As you drive through the winding mountain roads, you’ll pass through charming villages like Stylos, Tsivaras, and Kalives, each offering glimpses of local life and breathtaking countryside views. In the village of Gavalochori, visit the folklore museum of Apokoronas to learn about Cretan culture, history, and craftsmanship. Continue to Xirosterni village to tour a local, family-run raki distillery, where you’ll witness the entire production process of Crete’s famous spirit and sample it fresh from the source.
The adventure continues to Vrises, known for its peaceful square and riverside beauty, before reaching Emprosneros, home to the Mikis Theodorakis theatre and the hidden church of St. Antony carved into the rock. Here, you’ll also visit a traditional cheese-making family, tasting local specialties such as graviera, mizithra, and anthotiro. Stop by a nearby bakery to try freshly baked Cretan bread, olive oil, cookies, and biscuits that capture the island’s rustic flavors. Conclude your day in the charming village of Fres, where a hearty lunch at a traditional kafeneio awaits. Surrounded by locals and authentic hospitality, this village-hopping experience offers a true taste of Crete’s landscape, culture, and way of life.

Just 40 minutes outside Chania in an area called Melidoni, 500 m elevation, with beautiful views of the mountains and Chania waters is the location where the cooking class is conducted. An excellent experience of cooking gemista (stuffed vegetables), spinach and cheese pies, Greek tomato topping for Cretan bread etc. Tried numerous wines, ate all the beautiful food we made with local wine and had a fantastic history lesson from the GS tour guide, Gianni. His knowledge is exceptional with history of Crete and of everything during the cooking class. An absolute wonderful and highly recommended experience.

I loved everything about this tour and the experience with cooking authentic Greek foods on a local farm in Chania. The Kanakis family Farm has so much history behind them and to hear their story is so inspiring. My tour guide Alexandros was not only knowledgeable about the families history but also a lot about Greece’s history. Alexandros was so personable and the farm welcomed us with open arms. I highly recommend using GS tours. I know I will definitely be using them again the next time I travel to Greece. Love them so much!

From the moment our tour guide Maria picked us up it was a history lesson back in time. The private tour was very interesting personal experience. Maria was very knowledgeable about every place we visited from the olive oil and cheese factory and bakery. We were served taste samples at each location. To top off the tour we were served an authentic Greek four course meal for lunch at a local Greek restaurant that overlooked the country side to the mountains. The meal was delicious. We all enjoyed it and we all highly recommend the tour.

I had a great experience with the GS Tours Chania. The pick up to the destination was very smooth, I received detailed instructions and a call that there might be a delay, I appreciated the information so I could plan my day. The cooking class itself was easy to follow and filled with interesting information and stories about the Greek history and culture and also specifically Cretan cuisine. The Tour-guide, Alex, was friendly and his knowledge was very impressive and valuable. We had great time with him. And the food… was of course delicious. The owners of the property were very kind and made the experience even more special through their hospitality as well as organization. I can only recommend this experience, single travelers included. It gives you the possibility to learn the place from the best perspective, the locals. Followed by breathtaking sights around you. Just take a look…

We took a cooking class in the white mountains, and it was by far the best experience we had in Crete. The location, the incredible view, the family’s history and of course the food! We were feeling so welcomed and learned so much. Alex is an amazing guide and an extraordinary storyteller. Please do not miss this if you’re in Crete, everything about this was absolutely magical.
