Glendalough’s Upper Lake is a breathtakingly serene destination tucked away in the heart of Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains. It is part of the famous Glendalough Valley, a place rich in natural beauty and historical significance. The Upper Lake, framed by rugged hills and dense woodlands, offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you are an avid hiker, a nature lover, or simply someone seeking tranquility, this stunning lake caters to all. One of the most captivating aspects of the Upper Lake is how seamlessly it blends untouched nature with ancient history. The nearby monastic ruins, founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, add a sense of timelessness to the landscape. As you walk along the scenic trails, you’ll encounter stone churches, round towers, and centuries-old gravestones, each whispering stories of Ireland’s early Christian heritage. Photography enthusiasts will find countless opportunities to capture postcard-worthy shots—whether it’s the mist rising off the lake in the early morning, the golden hues of autumn foliage, or reflections dancing on the calm water’s surface. It’s a place that invites both stillness and inspiration. A visit to Glendalough’s Upper Lake is not just a scenic outing; it’s a truly magical experience that leaves a lasting impression.

I did the Wicklow and Glendalough Mountain Tour and had a wonderful experience. The locations were good, and 5–6 hour duration was perfect—not too long, not too short. I Highly recommend this tour if you're looking for a scenic half-day escape from the city.
Toni

Lovely tour. Took us longer to travel there and back than we actually spent at the mountain area. Tour guide was very informative and entertaining

This place is just f*** gorgeous! There are plenty of hiking routes to choose from. We did the 4 hour one and the views are just amazing. I think it would take you lots of visits to really explore it fully or do more routes. We spotted lots of deers during the hike and for the first time heard how they sound - as it was the mating season! Get proper hiking boots as the trail can get quite rough - wet in some areas and rocky in some.

Super awesome area. Overcast day but still beautiful. Trails for every type of hike from Easy to Moderate. Expect to spend a good part of the day here enjoying this peaceful landscape.
