Embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Catalonia with this guided day trip from Barcelona, where history, culture, and natural beauty come together in perfect harmony. Begin your adventure aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan, departing from central Barcelona toward the charming town of Vic. As you travel through the picturesque countryside, enjoy views of rolling hills and rustic villages. Your first stop is Girona, a city steeped in history and brimming with medieval character. Stroll through its winding cobbled streets, explore the magnificent Santa Maria Cathedral, and wander the ancient Jewish Quarter, one of the best preserved in Europe. Learn about Girona’s cultural and commercial significance, and see filming locations from Game of Thrones. You’ll also have time to enjoy a coffee at a local café, browse the market, or sample authentic Catalan specialties such as cured meats and artisanal cheeses.

Continue your scenic drive to the dramatic village of Castellfollit de la Roca, dramatically perched atop a basalt cliff formed by ancient volcanic lava flows. Wander its narrow lanes, visit the Church of Sant Salvador, and take in the breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across Catalonia’s lush valleys—a perfect spot for photography and reflection. After a delicious traditional Catalan lunch featuring regional favorites, make your way to the medieval gem of Besalú. Step back in time as you cross its iconic 12th-century Romanesque bridge and explore its beautifully preserved old town. With your guide, uncover the village’s fascinating Jewish heritage, including a rare Miqvé (ritual bath) and historic churches. Enjoy free time to wander local artisan shops or relax in the tranquil village square before returning to Barcelona. As the sun sets over the Catalan countryside, you’ll end your day enriched with memories of ancient towns, timeless architecture, and the soul of Catalonia itself.

Everything was superb, and the standout was visiting the medieval Jewish quarter in Girona and, during free time, in Besalù, too.

I actually ended up on the Girona and Costa Brava trip as this one didn't have enough people, it's the same guides and super similar!! Carlos was my guide and we learned so much, shared endless laughs, had the best lunch altogether, and it was without a doubt one of the best tours I've ever been on! Definitely check out the company and request Carlos where possible - the views were incredible but he made it all come alive!

What a wonderful experience exploring and walking the 3 locations on our tour, great way to see how life was back in the medieval times. And to top it off our tour guide "Papa Bear" was the icing on the cake. What a fun and charming person. Papa Bear kept us informed and entertained throughout the tour and made the road trip more enjoyable.

He went out of his way to ensure that we were well taken care of. Interesting historical towns surrounded by amazingly beautiful scenery enhanced our experience. This is an excursion that we sincerely recommend!

A visit to pretty Besalu is a must. It's very picturesque, great bridge and a beautiful church. Wish I'd had time to spend longer there.

Beautiful medieval old town worth visiting if you want a day trip from Barcelona. It's a nice change from the coastal cities and has different things to explore than the usual beach vibes.

There are plenty of information signs around the town covering the bridge, the old 10th century tower ruins and even early electrical hydro power plants.

This medieval bridge is very beautiful and really cool to walk on. There is a lot of information along the bridge that tells about its history as well as the history of the surrounding town. It is free to access and has a lot of shopping and dining nearby. There is also parking close by that is very cheap. This is a wonderful stop for families, solo travelers and couples of all ages.
