Celebrate Saint Patrick’s week with a captivating walking tour through one of Dublin’s most historic and character-filled districts — the Liberties, just west of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. Starting in the park outside the cathedral, this immersive tour reveals the fascinating blend of industry, architecture, and revolution that shaped this iconic area.
Wander through Blackpitts, Newmarket, Meath Street, and the Coombe as you uncover stories of Dublin’s industrial heart — from centuries-old tanning, brewing, and textile trades to the water-powered mills once driven by hidden underground rivers. Discover the lasting legacy of Dublin’s craftspeople and entrepreneurs who helped define the city’s working-class spirit.
Along the route, you’ll encounter fine examples of 17th- and 18th-century architecture — Dutch Billies, Alms Houses, Guild Halls, and Dower Houses — many tucked away in plain sight. The tour also explores the Liberties’ revolutionary past, from the turmoil of 1916 to the famous rivers of burning whiskey that once lit up its streets.
Led by an expert guide, this experience combines historical storytelling with modern technology — each guest receives an audio headset for clear, engaging commentary throughout the walk.
Rich in history, atmosphere, and local color, this tour offers an unforgettable way to celebrate Dublin’s heritage during Saint Patrick’s week — a journey through time in one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods.

Chris

We had a guided tour and this park was our meeting place. It was beautiful and neatly kept. Lots of families and dogs. Cool fountain in the middle. Located next to St Patrick’s cathedral. Nice potential for cool photos. On a couple of homeless guys so it felt safe. We were there at the end of October and the grass was still amazing!

A beautiful park beside St Patrick’s Cathedral. A free option if you don’t have a ticket inside the cathedral itself. The aura of the place is pleasant. Don’t rush it and sit and relax. Will come back to this place if I have time again

A serene slice of Dublin history with cathedral views and joyful vibes St Patrick’s Park is an absolute gem tucked beside the majestic St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Not only does it offer postcard-perfect views of Ireland’s largest church, but it’s steeped in meaningful history. The park was generously gifted to the city by the Guinness family in the early 20th century—a philanthropic gesture that transformed what was once a neglected area into a peaceful haven for locals and visitors alike. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, and elegant fountains that add a touch of grace to every corner. There are plenty of spots to relax, read, or enjoy a picnic, and the little outdoor café is a delightful bonus—perfect for a coffee and a moment of reflection. We visited on a sunny day, and the atmosphere was pure joy: children laughing, couples strolling, and friends soaking up the sunshine. It felt like the heart of Dublin was smiling. If you're looking for a tranquil spot with rich heritage and a view that stirs the soul, St Patrick’s Park is a must.

It was a lovely day today. So I went to the park. It's a great park between two Historic churches. Christ Church and St. Patrick's Cathedral. If the weather is nice. You can happily spend a day in this park.

Fabulous meeting place in the heart of the city. Stunning gardens and an ideal place to chill out and relax. There didn’t seem to be any restrictions with alcohol in the park as many were sharing food and drinks in their groups. The church is stunning and creates a wonderful atmosphere…. Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived so no chance of seeing inside. But I believe you can book tickets online.
