Your journey begins with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel in Cairo or Giza, setting the stage for a full day of exploration through some of the city’s most significant Islamic landmarks. The first stop is the historic El Azhar Mosque, founded over a thousand years ago, which stands as a symbol of Cairo’s rich religious and educational history. Here, you can admire the intricate architecture, learn about its founding, and understand its role in shaping Islamic scholarship over the centuries. From there, the tour continues to Al Mouayyed Mosque and the imposing Bab Zuweila, a remarkable gate built under the supervision of Badr Al Dein Al Gamal, offering both historical insight and stunning views of the surrounding area.
Next, cross the street to visit Al Hussein Mosque, an important spiritual and cultural site, while exploring the lively atmosphere of the nearby Khan El Khalili market. The vibrant bazaar is full of traditional crafts, souvenirs, and local flavors, providing a glimpse into everyday life in Cairo. Continuing on, you’ll visit Beit El Sehimy, a unique Islamic house that showcases the elegance and artistry of traditional Islamic architecture. This stop allows you to appreciate the domestic life of historic Cairo and the architectural details that make these houses so distinctive.
The tour then takes you to Al Hakam Mosque, one of the key Fatimid-era mosques, and onward to Bab Al Fetouh and Bab Al Nasr, impressive gates constructed under the supervision of Gawhar El Sakaly. Each of these sites tells a story of Cairo’s rich Islamic past and its architectural evolution. Along the way, there is an optional stop for lunch to enjoy local flavors before concluding your tour. Finally, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo or Giza, having experienced a deeply immersive journey through the historic heart of Islamic Cairo.

Emil was simply amazing! From the moment we met him, he made our Cairo tour unforgettable. His knowledge of history and local culture is incredible, and he knows exactly how to make the stories engaging and fun. He took us to all the must-see sights and also showed us unique spots that we never would have discovered on our own. Emil is friendly, patient, and goes out of his way to make sure everything runs smoothly. Thanks to him, our private tour felt personal, relaxed, and truly special. Can’t recommend Emil enough—he made Cairo come alive for us!

We met Emil about 2 years ago and have since returned to Egypt because he has guided us in all tours and went above and beyond to help us. He is friendly knowledgeable and reliable. Thank you Emil, we hope to see you yet again when we travel back to Cairo.

We hired Emil through Tours By Locals to tour Alexandria. He was excellent, planning a great day of exploration for us. Because the Library of Alexandria is closed to inside tours on Fridays, he even worked in a couple of extra places to visit. His knowledge of Egypt, past and present, is amazing, and he obviously loves to share it with visitors. We were particularly impressed with his ability to explain to and show us evidence of the merging of the Egyptian and Roman cultures in Alexandria, which made it so different from the many places we had just visited during our 2-week Nile River Cruise from Aswan to Cairo. The restaurant he selected for us for lunch was incredible! All in all, Emil made our last day in Egypt a perfect one!

Emil showed us the pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian museum and the cave church. Together with a driver, he will pick you up, take you everywhere and the driver will be waiting for you when you return. Emil is a very knowledgeable guide, knows a lot and explains everything very well. I would definitely recommend him! Nothing is too much, just stop somewhere in between, no problem! A tip for a restaurant, Emil thinks along with you. Thanks Emil (and chauffeur), see you next time.

Emil is an excellent guide. He is the most knowledgeable and wisest tour guide I have ever met, and took good care of us. He has a deep understanding of the entire Egyptian civilization and can answer any questions you have, rather than just general common sense. We had a trip that exceeded expectations.
