I do not recommend this tour. Please read carefully the very conflicting definitions of 'free' tour on website. I've been on many other 'free' tours and understand how they work. After such a tour I leave a 'tip' typically around £10-20 depending on how I valued the tour. Unlike every other tour I've been on, the guide here demanded the 'tip' about 20 mins in to the tour otherwise we were not allowed to continue (this was, they said, because some people skipped paying the 'tip', no doubt true). We paid (the amount we were planning to) and continued. The guide was much less informed than other tour guides we have experienced. I chose the tour because of it's 'harry potter' element. But there was nothing additional about Harry potter than other tours I've experienced. The tour of a college (a claimed unique selling point of this tour) was Keble college. The tour guide separated us into smaller groups and advised us to walk around independently. The aim of this, so it seemed, was to prevent staff at Keble realising that this was a tour group. Keble college (and other colleges) can easily be visited by tourists. There are other 'free' tour guides, superbly informative, that I recommend. Sadly, not this one.

It's a very good tour, especially for those with a general interest in Oxford with very little background knowledge (which will be many international first-time visitors to the city). The tour does a very good job of exploring the very many bizarre quirks of the university and its medieval town. The tour guides are good. The first time I took the tour was with an especially intelligent and funny guide whose name I sadly don't remember. If it's your first time to Oxford with not much background knowledge and you're not sure what to do with your day, I can highly recommend this
