Truly amazing. Make you allow plenty of time to get to the entry as they don't tolerate late arrivals. We were lucky enough to not have the usual mist hanging around and blocking what is the best view back to Lisbon, and to the north, and surrounding places of interest. Can be quite cool here during winter, so bring warm clothing. There is an uphill walk to the Palace itself.

We loved this place! We walked from the Sintra train station for about 1 hour between the Sintra park which was amazing. The climbing is not so hard, stairs or just trails, everything is moist and green so you have no reason to be scared of this. You should consider that by the entrance of the park is about 35 minutes of walk to the Pena palace (in some areas of the park wasn't internet but the signs are very good for orientation). Clean air, shadow and views of the park should compensate the hike!

Some recommendations. Firstly, don't walk from historical Sintra up to this palace. It's a long way and straight uphill. Secondly, we followed the advice of other travelers, went first thing in the morning (arrived before the gates opened) and were super glad we did. This is the most popular attraction in Sintra and so the line to enter the park can get really long. Thirdly, we went in February and it was cold but I can't even imagine how it would be in the heat of summer. On the hike from the park entrance to the palace itself we reflected a few times how happy we were that it wasn't hot. Also, we caught an Uber from our hotel in Lisbon to the park gates. It was quick, cheap and easy. The grounds and palace exterior (we didn't go inside) are really beautiful. Must see when you're in Sintra for sure. From the palace we walked to the Moorish castle (10 to 15 minutes easy stroll). After there we walked downhill to the town of Sintra. Not sure how long it took but it was a really easy walk.

Definitely worth visiting! If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend taking the hike up — the walk itself is part of the experience and offers beautiful views along the way. Tickets can be purchased at several points along the route (there are three ticket spots on the way) as well as right before the entrance. You can choose to buy a ticket just to explore the surrounding park and enjoy the views, or purchase full access to go inside the palace. We decided to admire it from the outside, and it was absolutely stunning even without entering. The architecture, the colors, and the breathtaking scenery all around make this place truly magical. A memorable experience and definitely a highlight of the trip.

Lovely place, kind of a pain in the butt to get to making it meh. Took the train from Lisbon to Sintra, was fine, but the bus from Sintra up the hill hit some nasty traffic and made for very long ride. Made a strategic mistake and didn’t get tickets online for the inside. Oh well. We heard it wasn’t so spectacular. But the outside was still fine. Enjoyed a walk around the tower and gardens. Was it worth the fuss? Candidly I don’t think so. It’s a nice place and stunning in some respects with amazing views, but all the effort to get there, I spent more time just transiting and fighting crowds. If you do go, take a bus or ride of some kind up, it’s quite steep. Then walk down. ***the food at restaurant is ok, and not so overpriced.

Informative, friendly guide. Itinerary included all the sights we wanted to see during our break. Being driven, by a pleasant and helpful driver, made the experience very enjoyable rather than having to work out and use public transport. Having pre-booked tickets for the palace avoided long queues and was a huge bonus. The tour was very well organised and gave us plenty of free time in Cascais for lunch and a break. Highly recommend visiting the highlights of Lisbon and the surrounding area with GetYourGuide.

This day trip was excellent. You get to see so many of Lisbon’s famous attractions. The driver and tour guide were brilliant and offered so much knowledge. I cannot recommend this enough. Great value for how long the day is.
