Embark on a full-day tour through the historic Kartli region of Georgia, starting from Avlabari Metro Station. Begin your journey at Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town that dates from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages, where you can explore its fascinating structures and learn about the unique blend of pagan and Christian architecture. After immersing yourself in the antique life of Georgia, enjoy a local lunch in the region before continuing to Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Here, you can choose to explore the town on your own or visit the Stalin Museum, which preserves his original house, railway carriage, and Soviet-era exhibits.
The tour continues to Mtskheta, Georgia’s former capital, where you will visit two UNESCO World Heritage sites. First, marvel at Jvari Monastery, the 6th-century “Monastery of the Cross,” perched on a mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, offering spectacular views of the town below. Finally, explore Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of Georgia’s most revered Orthodox churches, known as the burial site of Christ’s robe and a key religious and historical landmark. This full-day tour offers a rich combination of history, architecture, and culture, providing deep insight into Georgia’s past and spiritual heritage. Very interesting ancient town carved into the rocks of Georgia. Incredible how big and well maintaned it is. Fascinating visit and some amazing views.

A huge unique historical site to visit. We loved exploring all the caves with the children and imagining what life would have been like when it was in use. It could have been better to have some explanations on the signs.

Originally only a short stop turned out longer. The cave town is bigger than expected, lot to see and discover. Beautiful views from the top. Worth the extra time spent there!

beautiful and unique place! The old city carved into the wall is absolutely stunning, full of charm and history. The views from the top are breathtaking, and the atmosphere feels peaceful and authentic. There’s also an option for wine tasting for an extra 5 lari — totally worth it! The staff were friendly and spoke English, which made everything easy to navigate. I came here 7 months pregnant, and while the walk up was a bit challenging, it was definitely worth the effort. Highly recommend visiting!

One of the most interesting and historic places you can travel to in Georgia. This mountain-side carved town was inhabited up until around 1800. The unique culture, wine making and traditions of this place is truly one to learn about. Entry is a little pricey, 15 lari/person or 20 lari/person with a guided wine tasting. Parking is free outside the gates. I would plan at least 2-3 hours to comfortably explore this place
