Starting from Kandy, the journey begins with an approximately one-hour drive through scenic landscapes, passing natural rivers, streams, paddy fields, spice villages, and gardens that showcase the region’s rich agricultural heritage. The trek officially begins at Rangala Village, the last settlement in the Knuckles Mountains, where tea plantations mark the start of the mountainous adventure. Around 10:30 am, there is a rest stop at a scenic viewpoint, offering stunning vistas of the Ranagala forests and parts of the Knuckles Reserve, providing the perfect opportunity to take photos and soak in the natural beauty before continuing the hike.
As the trek resumes, travelers are immersed in the diverse flora and fauna of the Knuckles Reserve, with the rocky terrain revealing small waterfowl and other unique wildlife. The route then leads to a waterfall via more challenging trails, offering a refreshing spot to rest and bathe while appreciating the surrounding natural beauty. After exploring these key highlights of the Knuckles Reserve, the group returns along alternate trails to Rangala Village, concluding the trek around 3:30 pm. From there, participants board the vehicle and drive back to Kandy, arriving around 4:30 pm, completing a full day of adventure, nature, and breathtaking scenery in Sri Lanka’s iconic mountain range.
