Embark on a private full day tour to explore the timeless charm of San Gimignano and Volterra, two of Tuscany’s most captivating towns, tailored to your personal preferences. Begin your journey in San Gimignano, often referred to as one of Italy’s most romantic hilltop towns. Known for its iconic medieval skyline, the town was once home to 72 towers, with only 14 remaining today, offering a glimpse into its rich historical past. As you wander through the cobbled streets, enjoy a guided walk through the surrounding countryside, where you’ll be immersed in the breathtaking Tuscan landscapes that can also be admired from the town’s windows and ramparts.
San Gimignano is not only famous for its historic towers but also for producing the renowned Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Tuscany’s finest white wine. Throughout the town, you’ll have the opportunity to sample this exquisite wine, celebrated for its crisp and refreshing flavor, and learn about its centuries old production process.
Afterward, the tour continues to Volterra, a stunning town perched on a rocky promontory that offers commanding views of the surrounding rugged Tuscan countryside. Known for its ancient Etruscan heritage, Volterra is rich in history and well preserved medieval streets. As you explore the town, you’ll have the chance to visit workshops where local artisans skillfully craft alabaster into delicate, translucent souvenirs, a tradition dating back thousands of years.
This full day tour is the perfect blend of Tuscany’s art, history, natural beauty, and authentic culinary experiences. Whether you’re drawn to the medieval charm of San Gimignano, the ancient allure of Volterra, or the rich tastes of Tuscany’s finest wines, this excursion promises to be an unforgettable journey through one of the world’s most beautiful regions.

This is certainly the place to learn about Vernaccia di S Gimignano. We thoroughly enjoyed our Superior Wine Tasting, where we were taken through various levels, from young and not particularly complex (but refreshing and enjoyable) up to Riserva wines, which were much serious. We also sampled a local red wine (a Merlot). The presenter pitched it perfectly - neither too simple nor over our heads - and encouraged us to concentrate on the elements of flavour in the wines and the reasons why it went well with certain types of food. The wines were paired with snacks to demonstrate this - from bruschetta with olive oil, through pecorino cheeses to air dried ham and salami. We left feeling refreshed and (more importantly) much better informed about Vernaccia. As a bonus, the Experience’s position high on San Gimignano’s walls provides fantastic views (and sunsets).

Excellent class, this was my second time bringing a group to take it. Highly recommend!

Wish i could speak to the experience but i cannot. We had a tasting booked at 12:00, but we ran late after trying to find parking for almost an hour. I can accept that being late was our fault but the staff was unwilling to offer any options to us other than booking later at full price. Maybe a discount for a later slot as they already had our payment in full? Disapointing since the place looked rather empty and we had already paid over €120 for 2 of us. Beware that parking near town can be very full and to give yourself extra time to arrive before your booking.

Amazing learning and sensory (smells and tasting) experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable taking us through the history of and historical references to the vernaccia grape, how Italian wine is standardized with DOCG, DOC, etc, an aromatics test, and finally a wine tasting with bites of food paired with it. In particular, if you know a bit about wine but would like to know more, this is a great experience.

What a lovely location to imbibe a small glass of vino and I mean small. The view however was huge and hmm so was the cost of the wine. Sorry but 8 euros for the reds we tried, frankly, they are overcharging. They indicated they provide 110 ml but as far as I'm concerned they were short pours. As a former bar manager I know how much one should charge per glass to break even and also to make a profit, I did observe the server topped up a few customers without charge (they were white wine though)! I don't want to take away from our server, who was quite pleasant but... I recommend the view. I don't recommend buying any wine from this location. Just go and enjoy the view.
