Departing from Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites and capital of South Tyrol, we begin our scenic journey north through the picturesque Isarco Valley. As we continue east, we travel along the renowned Gardena Valley, reaching the famous Gardena Pass at an elevation of 2,136 meters. Here, we pause to take in the breathtaking views of the Badia Valley and the towering Sassolungo. After descending into the Badia Valley, we ascend once more, crossing the Valparola and Falzarego Passes, which lead us into the stunning eastern Dolomites.
Next, we arrive in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy’s premier mountain resort, known as the “Pearl of the Dolomites,” and home to the 1956 Winter Olympic Games. From Cortina, we continue our journey to the enchanting Misurina Lake, where we are greeted by panoramic views of the iconic Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The lake, framed by the peaks to the north and Sorapis Mountain to the south, presents one of the most famous and picturesque landscapes in the Dolomites.
After enjoying the stunning scenery at Misurina, we head northeast toward the border with Austria, where we reach the renowned Braies Lake. Known for its crystal-clear waters and surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, Braies Lake is a perfect spot to reflect on the natural beauty of the Dolomites.
Our adventure concludes with a scenic drive back to Bolzano, passing through the peaceful Pusteria Valley and the charming Isarco Valley, offering a final opportunity to take in the magnificent landscapes of this unique region.
