Kimono Tea Ceremony MAIKOYA Asakusa was one of the most beautiful cultural experiences of our trip. The staff were incredibly patient and welcoming, helping us dress in gorgeous kimonos and explaining each step of the tea ceremony with warmth and clarity. The atmosphere was peaceful and authentic, and we learned so much about Japanese tradition while also taking stunning photos in the studio and garden area, followed by a stroll in the surrounding area all dressed up as we didn't have to return the kimonos for a few hours. Everything felt organized, respectful, and thoughtfully done. A memorable and relaxing experience that made us feel truly connected to Japanese culture.

We had a really lovely kimono and tea experience with Maikoya. The kimono selection was beautiful as was the hair styling process. Then Kurumi-san led us through the tea ceremony and explained its history and cultural significance. She was so cheerful and had great energy. There were also small chairs available for people with knee issues which was perfect for my parents. Afterwards, there was a small outdoor garden where we could take photos while still dressed up. All the staff were super sweet and my whole group had a lot of fun. Highly recommend this shop for anyone looking to experience some Japanese culture.

Miya was a wonderful host! My first time in Tokyo and I wanted to do all touristy things! It was soo fun to dress in kimono and learn about a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Miya was very funny and taught us how to make matcha and proper tea drinking etiquette. The matcha and sweets were yummy. It was such a fun experience reminding me to slow down & savor the moment. Thank you so much! 😊🙏

Great experience! Did the ~1 hour long tea ceremony - the dressing up (both men and women change into kimono, and women also get their hair done) takes around 20 minutes and was the highlight for me. The tea ceremony itself is actually a little anticlimactic because the only thing you really do is mix some matcha and the rest is listening to your instructor give some history of tea tradition and perform the more ceremonial portions herself while you watch, but overall it was still a pretty good experience. I loved that they let you continue wearing your kimono around town until they close at 6pm so you can get beautiful photos elsewhere! All the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient.

Outstanding! Staff help guests into beautiful kimono (or samurai attire for the men), from a large selection of colorful choices. Then guests are taken to a tea room to learn a little history about the tea ceremony, the room and how to enjoy and make matcha. Our ceremony host, Miya, was friendly and informative. It was an enriching experience that I will remember long after our trip. And, we were allowed a lot of time for picture taking, with props in two beautiful gardens. And the matcha was delicious!
