Visited on Hoshana Rabbah for prayer and Kiddush in the sukkah. The community was very welcoming, even though we didn’t always share a common language like English or Hebrew. Special thanks to Arie Ze’ev for sharing the story of the synagogue.

Attended Friday night shabbat services. Overall very positive experience. The shul itself is beautiful and the community was welcoming. Note that if you are a visitor, you need to contact them in advance and register to attend, otherwise you will not be let in by security. Service is orthodox, sephardi.

I found this synagogue when I was walking back to my hotel in Porto. There is a museum showing the history of the Jewish people in Porto

Built in 1938 with funding from the Hong Kong Kadoorie family it open to War World II and many refugees. The temple is rich with azulejos tiles and beautiful lighting. On the second floor there is balcony seating as well. In addition there is a large library in three rooms, and an outdoor balcony facing the street. At the time there was a display of large artworks depicting the history of Judaism in Portugal. Across the street is the Museum of Judaism in Porto and down the street is the Holocaust Museum. If there is an opportunity to visit the synagogue it is not to be missed as access is rare.

Absolutely beautiful building from the front gate. I really don't understand why we were turned away at the front gate after I spoke with another couple just moments later that were also tourists. Was it that I asked in english and not hebrew? My one big disappointment on my trip to Portugal and Spain.
