Cool experience! For 3 people we’ve ordered 7 drinks, surprisingly the most expensive ones were not as fun and bubbly as the cheaper versions. The staff were super friendly! The atmosphere is nice, the place is decorated
Reservation: You have to make a reservation online. Process is quite smooth and the staff was also great when I needed to reschedule. I love the extra touch the staff made by making Harry Potter reference in the email reply. Location: Quite central but the store itself is underground and it looks like it’s closed, there was no clear sign and it is not well-lit, considering the short daylight in Edinburgh, this made it difficult to locate. Ambience: The whole shop is dingy and not in a Leaky Cauldron kind of way? It is decorated in every corner but it honestly lacks the fandom touch in my opinion. There are posters all around the room but it felt very half-hearted as it either has no reference to Harry Potter at all, or tried to make some reference that made no sense. Service: I was greeted at the counter for checks of my reservation. I booked for only myself and the staff went “only you?” in an unappreciative tone. There was only 1 staff working the floor - introducing the menu, taking order and serving - despite there being 3-4 other staff behind the counter. Naturally it took a while before I was served, and the whole introduction (like what I have booked and what the “potions” are for) was so scripted and rushed that I did not understand. Before I could ask for clarification, the staff had moved on to other table. I also felt a little neglected as the staff spent considerably more time with the other table, providing more introductions/back story as well as recommendations, but when I asked, it was done in a single liner. Experience: The potion came with instructions to follow. Instruction again has no reference to Harry Potter, given in clues (why? This is not a quiz or escape room), sheet was stained and dirty. Some ingredients needed you to “tickle that good friend” or “jump 4 times”.. again, why? Potions in the fandom should be brewed by turning in particular directions, or under full moon, etc. and why would I tickle my friend while making a potion? The drink I ordered also requires me to write on a piece of “paper” and mix it with the potion - the “paper” didn’t even dissolve and just floats there (come on there are many soluble alternatives), when asked the staff simply replied “you can scoop it out”. It honestly did not matter which potion you order. You can barely taste the alcohol in the concoction, just coloured syrups and glitter. Overall, I did not enjoy the experience. It is overpriced for a subpar cocktail and unauthentic for a place that is so heavily advertised on social media as a Harry Potter fandom spot.
We had such an amazing time making the cocktails and teas. It was so much fun to get hands-on and see everything come together. The staff were wonderful, so friendly, and stayed in character the whole time, which made the experience feel truly magical. We also had the afternoon tea, which was absolutely delicious and a real highlight of our day. It quickly became one of the most memorable moments of our vacation and something we will never forget. A huge thank you to Bex, Lizzy, and Alison for making it so special and for all the little touches that made it feel extra magical.
Amazing experience. 2 kids and we as parents both enjoyed and had fun. You can make yourself actual cocktails as you brew potions like movies or stories. Place is like medieval times and staff were all so polte and helpful
We were really excited to visit, especially after reading all the rave reviews, it definitely set the bar high. The staff were friendly, and although the place was quite empty when we arrived, it started to fill up not long after. Unfortunately, as it got busier, the service became noticeably slower. Tables that arrived after us were ordering and receiving their drinks before we even had a chance to place ours. I tried the "Love Potion" cocktail, which was essentially a gin and tonic with some silver glitter. For £17.50, you get the cocktail and a shot, but the shot only arrives after you've finished your drink.
