Leaving Berat at 9 a.m., your journey begins with a scenic drive of just over an hour through the Albanian countryside. As soon as you exit the city, you're surrounded by rolling hills, lush valleys, rivers, and peaceful villages—offering a glimpse into the rural heart of the country. A short stop in the small town of Polican allows you to enjoy a local breakfast and learn about its past as a weapons manufacturing center during communist times. From there, it’s a brief drive to Bogova, a charming village known for its fresh mountain water and waterfalls. You’ll continue on foot, following forest paths and wooden bridges as the sound of rushing water grows louder. The Bogova Waterfalls may not be massive, but their clear waters and natural pool, perfect for a swim in warm weather, create a refreshing and magical atmosphere.
After soaking in the serenity of the waterfalls, you'll head toward one of Albania’s most impressive natural wonders: the Osum Canyon. Though it differs in appearance from the Grand Canyon, its beauty is equally striking. Nestled at the base of Mount Tomorr and surrounded by a vast nature reserve, this area features meadows, forests, and the dramatic gorge carved by the Osum River. Stretching 26 kilometers, the canyon becomes fully navigable during spring and early summer, when melting snow swells the river. The landscape is alive with caves, waterfalls perched high in the cliffs, and winding paths that offer stunning views of the canyon below.
The Osum Canyon region is a treasure trove of biodiversity, a place where Albania’s wild flora flourishes year-round. Trees, shrubs, and herbs blanket the canyon walls, creating a living green tapestry on both sides of the river. This unique ecosystem remains lush in every season, offering a sense of seclusion and harmony with nature. As you explore, you'll find yourself immersed in a world where natural beauty, tranquility, and adventure meet—an unforgettable journey into one of Albania’s most stunning and unspoiled landscapes.
