About this activity
We will begin our journey by visiting Angkor Wat, one of the most iconic temples in Cambodia, built between 1113 and 1150 AD by King Suryavarman II. This massive temple, measuring 330 meters by 260 meters, features three levels and five main towers. Its walls are adorned with intricate bas-reliefs that depict scenes from ancient Hindu mythology and a significant war during King Suryavarman II’s reign. Angkor Wat has become a national symbol of Cambodia, even appearing on the country's flag as it represents the soul of the nation.
Next, we will head to Angkor Thom City, starting with a stop at the South Gate, a grand entrance to the ancient city. From here, we’ll continue to the Bayon Temple, which was constructed in the 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Bayon is renowned for its many galleries of bas-reliefs that offer a glimpse into daily life during that era, as well as its famous towering faces that gaze down from all angles. After exploring Bayon, the tour will continue to visit Baphuon Temple, the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the Royal Palace. The final stop of the day will be at Ta Prohm Temple, which gained worldwide fame through its appearance in the Tomb Raider movie. Built during the mid-12th to 13th centuries, Ta Prohm originally functioned as a Buddhist monastery and university, and today it stands as a stunning example of nature’s reclamation of ancient ruins.
