About this activity
Embark on a captivating journey along the Wild Atlantic Way to the iconic Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's most famous and awe-inspiring natural landmarks. After departing from Galway, travel through the rugged beauty of the western coastline, passing harbors, farms, and a range of historical sites including medieval castles, 16th-century tower houses, crumbling stone churches, and ancient graveyards. The first stop is Dunguaire Castle near Kinvara, one of Ireland’s most photographed castles, followed by a scenic drive through the Burren, a glacio-karst landscape, and past Corcomroe Abbey, a 12th-century Cistercian Abbey noted for its ornate carvings and intricate design. Enjoy views of Fanore's golden beach and the Black Head lighthouse, set on the limestone bedrock of the Burren region, which showcases one of the best examples of glaciation in the world. As you continue, take in views of the three Aran Islands, Inishmore, Inishmann, and Inisheer, nestled within Galway Bay, with Connemara’s mountains rising in the distance.
A stop at Doolin pier offers a chance to feel the powerful Atlantic wind and witness the raw beauty of the sea as it crashes onto the shore. During the summer months, there is the option to take a cruise to the base of the Cliffs of Moher (cruise not included), followed by a delicious seafood lunch at the Doolin Hotel (lunch not included). Arriving at the Cliffs of Moher, enjoy two hours to explore the majestic cliffs, which rise 214 meters above the Atlantic Ocean. Wander the pathways at your own pace, relax on one of the viewing platforms, and immerse yourself in the invigorating sea air. The cliffs are home to over 60,000 nesting seabirds, including puffins visible from April to July. Visit the visitor center, which features interactive exhibits and displays detailing the geology, wildlife, and human history of the cliffs, as well as an eco-friendly café, restaurant, and gift shop nestled into the hillside.
